Zidane Real Madrid’s Contract Is Still CHEAPER Than Mourinho

Figures obtained by Spanish newspaper El Confidencial reveal how much Zidane will earn back in charge of the club.

The manager – who quit Real last summer after guiding them to a third straight Champions League triumph – is back in the Bernabeu hot seat.

He replaced Santiago Solari this week, with Real having already ditched Julen Lopetegui – Zidane’s original successor – in the autumn.

And the cost of Florentino Perez’s managerial merry-go-round has now been revealed.

El Confidencial report that Zidane will earn an eye-watering £10.3million a season back at the Bernabeu.

The manager has signed a three-year contract, which will reportedly see him earn incrementally more money each year.

Zidane was on a £6.4m-a-year contract at Real Madrid before he left the club last summer.

And the Frenchman evidently drove a hard bargain with Perez in order to almost double his wages.

Yet he STILL proves cheaper than what Jose Mourinho would have demanded, had the Portuguese been appointed in the Spanish capital.

The report claims Mourinho – sacked by Manchester United in December – would have requested a staggering £17m-a-season contract to rejoin his former club.

Mourinho is out of work but is angling to join a new club in the summer before the next season starts.

He will not be heading back to Real any time soon, while a move to Juventus looks unlikely if Max Allegri steers the Turin side to the Champions League this term.

El Confidencial add that Real’s other options would have earned a cheaper salary than Zidane – but they would also prove difficult to appoint.

Mauricio Pochettino has been linked with a move away from Tottenham but Spurs would likely demand a massive compensation fee – and the manager himself would want around £9m a season to take up the job.

It is claimed Liverpool’s Jurgen Klopp would likely expect £7.3m a year at the Bernabeu, while Allegri would command £6.7m.

Discussing his return to Real on Monday, Zidane admitted he has struggled to watch his former side in recent months.

“I want to put this club back where it belongs,” he said.

“It has been difficult from the outside looking in.

“I have been living here in Madrid, doing my things. But I have recharged my batteries. I’m ready to coach this great club again.”
