If any leader today (other than Mr Uhuru and Mr Raila) claims to know the details of the Handshake, he or she will be lying.
Other than the USA’s nuclear launch codes held by President Trump, the details of the meeting between our President and the chief Opposition leader in Harambee House on 9th March last year is the best kept secret on the planet.
So much so that a whole industry has sprung up around that event. Journalists, politicians who are anti and pro handshake, a pack of commentators and political “analysts”, committees and bartenders have been gainfully employed to try and decipher the details of this one handshake.
If this handshake was for the benefit of the country, as we have been repeatedly told, the details would have been out there for all to digest and comment on. “Inclusivity” would have spread to all corners of the country.
The only political heat in the country would have been from the electric gates at Parliament Buildings. But this is not so. The two present during the handshake have persistently been vague about what it means to the chagrin of their closest supporters.
They have actually excluded – despite talk of the contrary – the rest of the country from their vision. This, of course, has led to numerous conspiracy theories and one which is slowly getting traction is that it was a personal handshake, meant to promote personal visions of political survival and had nothing to do with the wider public.
Last night on national TV, the Joint Secretary of the Building Bridges Initiative ,BBI, Mr Paul Mwangi, went nowhere close to assuaging the public on these key issues. He threw around cliches like inclusivity, public participation and winner-takes-all like confetti in a posh wedding.
In the end, he was as vague as most of our politicians including Mr Uhuru and Mr Odinga.
Nobody knows what the Handshake MOU between Raila and Uhuru entails and before the two actually reveal it to the Public, we will forever be treated to Political Sideshows and Propaganda as the one now being propagated by people like Oscar Sudi and Kipchumba Murkomen who has even said that the Handshake was the biggest Political fraud to evet happen in Kenya.
