The Reds are looking to join City in the quarter-finals and they travel to Munich following a goalless draw in the first leg.

Jurgen Klopp’s side are desperate to make amends for last season where they fell at the final hurdle against Real Madrid.

City sailed through to the last eight with a thumping 10-2 aggregate win over Schalke.

And Guardiola, who spent three seasons in charge of Bayern, is hoping his former side progress.

“I’m sorry for the English people but I want Bayern to go through,” he said.

“I love Munich, I love Bayern. I have a lot of friends there.

“It’s a demanding game for both but I feel I like Bayern Munich and hopefully they can go through.”

Guardiola‘s comments come after:

“I want Bayern to go through.”

Liverpool are going head-to-head with City for the Premier League title and a competitive rivalry has raised tensions between the clubs in recent seasons.

The Reds knocked Guardiola’s side out of the Champions League quarter-finals last season, winning 5-1 on aggregate.

And Liverpool fans are convinced that the Spaniard’s comments are evidence that he’s scared of suffering the same fate as last year.

“Cos he knows we would batter them and their bus over 2 legs again,” said one fan on Twitter.

While another added: “He won’t want to dare the Power of Anfield on a Champions league night again.”

“That’s because he’s scared of us, we will take that as a huge compliment,” tweeted a third.

Should Liverpool progress, they’ll discover their quarter-final opponents in Friday’s draw.
