How Headteacher died on Witchdoctor’s Operation Table

A sombre mood engulfed Sisokhe village in Likuyani, Kakamega county on the morning of Monday, March 11, after a head teacher who had gone to see a witch doctor died mysteriously while waiting to be attended to.

Vivian Atuvuka died moments after arriving at the home of medicine woman who had ushered and booked her in a separate room to wait for her turn while she attended to other ‘patients’ who had arrived earlier.

Beatrice Okum, the witch doctor, allegedly found the teacher already dead when she went to call her in for treatment.

“She had complained about fever and took a packet of milk which she was just holding in her hands as she waited to be examined, said Dismas Okum, the witch doctor’s husband

Patrick Shilako, a bodaboda rider who had taken the deceased to the witch doctor, said the teacher was in a jovial mood and had bought some items for the healer.

“The teacher looked jovial and even went to a shop at Sisokhe where she bought milk, sugar, bread and tea leaves for the host. She told me it was not advisable to visit one’s home early in the morning with empty hands,” said Shilako

The bodaboda rider was, however, taken aback moments later when the ‘doctor’ emerged from the house to inform him the patient he had brought had succumbed.

“I accompanied the doctor into the house where I found the teacher lying on the floor, she was too cold and was not breathing,” he said.

The bodaboda rider said the teacher had land issues with her neighbor and has been feeling weak since the day she uprooted beacons planted to mark the boundary.

“She said that some people had told her the beacons were planted by a naked person at night and were not supposed to be touched. She also claimed that her hand had been growing weak since she uprooted them,” he said
