CRISTIANO RONALDO has been hailed as a “football god”

There’s no greater player than Cristiano Ronaldo.

In a moment when Juventus and in extension Italy needed him, he showed up, he showed up big time.

The Italian giants had a mountain to climb after losing the first leg 2-0 in Madrid but the five-time Ballon d’Or winner was at his imperious best to pull his team through.

The Portuguese scored his first headed goal on 27 minutes before another three minutes after half time that was adjudged to have crossed the line by goal-line technology.

Then, with the tie seemingly set for extra time, Ronaldo fired a penalty past the hapless Jan Oblak to seal their progression to the quarter final.

After the game BT Sport pundit Rio Ferdinand labelled Ronaldo a “living football god” for another impressive display in Europe’s premier competition.

And he compared his former Manchester United team-mate to Everton legend Duncan Ferguson for his heading ability.

“He’s a living football god, it’s ridiculous what he’s doing,” Ferdinand said.

“In the Champions League he’s got every record that you can imagine.

“He’s joint-top hat-trick man with Lionel Messi.

“This goal here, this is like Duncan Ferguson in his prime.

“Attacking the ball, leaving the full-back in a heap and saying ‘this is me’. That is what you call desire.

“By the way this is against an Atletico Madrid team who are renowned for having an unbelievable defence.

“They’ve gone and scored three goals and he’s got a hat-trick.
