Blow to Harambee Stars as striker Michael Olunga misses AFCON qualifier against Ghana

Kenyan international Michael Olunga is set to miss national team Harambee Stars duty in the coming few weeks after his club confirmed that he suffered a hamstring injury at the weekend.

The Japan based striker netted the lone goal in his team Kashiwa Reysol’s win over Albirex Niigata on Saturday, but finished the match with pain in the thigh, which the club has since revealed is a hamstring injury.

The injury is estimated to rule him out for three weeks, which means he will not be part of head coach Sebastien Migne’s team for the clash against Ghana in the final round of the 2019 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

With Olunga out, Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has confirmed Migne has called up Zambia based Jesse Jackson Were as replacement.

The team is scheduled to go to camp on Sunday 17 March to start preps for the Ghana clash, with Kenya going to the game leading Group F of the qualifiers with seven points.
