West Ham defender mocks Chelsea over Declan Rice

West Ham United star Declan Rice is on the verge of his first England call up.

Rice has taken the Premier League by storm with West Ham this season.

So good has his form been as the fulcrum of Manuel Pellegrini’s side, Rice has been at the centre of an international tug of war between England and the Republic of Ireland.

Gareth Southgate won that particular battle.

And Rice is expected to earn his first England call-up when the latest Three Lions squad is announced next week.

The midfielder has been likened to greats of the game such as Roy Keane, Javier Mascherano and Sergio Busquets.

And he cost the Hammers nothing.

The 20-year-old graduated from West Ham’s famed Academy after arriving in East London aged 14 following his release by London rivals Chelsea.

With over 60 Premier League appearances to his name for West Ham and a promising international future ahead of him, Chelsea’s decision to release Rice looks a serious error of judgement.

And now Rice’s West Ham teammate Ryan Fredericks has mocked the West London club for letting him go.

“You were somewhere crap before weren’t you?” Fredericks said to Rice on WHUTV when quizzed whether he knew where the midfielder had started his youth career.

“Now you’re top boy.”

Fredericks also took a swipe at EA Sports for underrating Rice on FIFA 19 with a distinctly average 69.
