One of the hallmarks of a top club that enjoys sustained success is the ability to hold on to it’s best players over the long-term.

Pep Guardiola’s young and vibrant squad has become the envy of many on the continent and keeping the best players is vital for continuous success.

After getting key players like Kevin De Bruyne and Raheem Sterling to commit their long-term futures to the club as well as keeping long standing captain Vincent Kompany for another year,

Aymeric Laporte has become the latest player to put pen to paper on a new deal.

The defender, who has been in superb form for City since joining the club from Athletic Bilbao in January 2018, has signed a new contract that will keep him at the Etihad Stadium until 2025.

The incident came as good news for both club and player as the club’s hierarchy expressed satisfaction with the 24-year-old for his outstanding displays in the City shirt and his admirable attitude.

City’s Director of Football Txiki Begiristain stated on the occasion:

“Aymeric is a huge talent and the fact he has committed his best years to us is something to celebrate.

“We knew before we brought him here that he had outstanding potential but his improvement over the past 12 months has been exceptional.

“We want to construct a young, vibrant side, and Aymeric fits perfectly into our plans. His style of play suits us and his attitude since the day he arrived has been first class.

“He can be as good as he wants to be, and Manchester City will be a better side with him in it over the coming seasons,” he concluded.

On his part, the player also expressed delight about the extension.

“I could not be happier to commit my long-term future to Manchester City. Since the day I arrived here, I have been made to feel welcome by Pep and all the players.

“This Club offers me everything I need to improve my game. I’ve already made great strides and I want to continue getting better and better.

“Obviously, I want to win silverware and I feel City is the best place for me to fulfil all my ambitions.”

Strong, fast and intelligent on the ball, Laporte has become an integral part of the City side as manager Guardiola finds him a reliable option to use throughout the back line.

Able to not only do his job at the back, the Frenchman also plays a vital role in the team’s quick transition from defence to attack. Excellent with the ball at his feet, he is the Catalan manager’s kind of player.

It’s not surprising then that he has been the most used player in the team so far in the campaign. He has played every minute of every Premier League match this season and churns out top-notch performances whenever he is on the pitch.

With players like him spending their best years at City, the future looks even brighter.
