How the DCI lured kidnapper from hiding after demanding sh 2 m ransom

From daring criminal activities conducted near the office of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations to targeting the Ethics and Anti-Corruption officers,crime has truly crossed the border in Kenya demonstrating the boldness of wicked minds.

Shaban Wangatia Otinda, a suspected kidnapper, was arrested by Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officers in Kitengela, Kajiado County on Sunday.

The 37-year-old man was taken into custody for allegedly kidnapping an Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission (EACC) employee.

DCI revealed that the victim was rescued following their operation.

β€œThe victim was found safe and rescued. The suspect will be arraigned in court on Monday,” revealed a statement posted by the DCI on their social media platforms.

Mr Otinda reportedly abducted the unnamed EACC official and went on to demand Ksh2 million as ransom.

Reports indicated that the DCI set-up an elaborate ruse to lure the suspected kidnapper from hiding in order to apprehend him, by pretending to play along with his demands.

The security agency in their statement disclosed that they arrested Mr Otinda while he was waiting to receive the ransom money at the agreed upon location in Kitengela.
