EACC employee kidnapped found in Kitengela

Police have arrested a 37-year-old man alleged to have kidnapped an employee of EACC and demanding a ransom of Ksh.2M.

The suspect; Shaban Wangatia Otinda, to be arraigned in court today, was nabbed by detectives in Kitengela as he prepared to collect the money. Police sources confirmed that the Victim was found safe and rescued.

Currently an Italian woman who was kidnapped in the coast region is yet to be found month later. Police manning borders say the woman is still within the countries borders.

A 20017 police report by the National Crime Research Centre revealed that Central Kenya was the the worst-hit region by kidnappings although the report further noted that the menace was spreading across all parts of the country with various categories of kidnapping identified.

Perpetrators use force to kidnap majority of their targets at 43.7pc, others were enticed at 26.8 pc while 3.9pc was through domestic workers.

However, 0.4pc self-kidnapped themselves, either to get sympathy or political mileage.

The majority of victims according to the report were kidnapped while going home, when on duty or business premises and when closing business.
