Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko on Monday offered a Ksh 100,000 bounty after a woman strangled and dumped her infant at Mukuru kwa Reuben slum.

Photos shared by Sonko showed the boy who appeared to be days old with a rope tied around her neck.

In a statement to Kenyans.co.ke, Nairobi County Communication Director, Elkana Jacob, revealed that the police caught up with the mother and another woman who helped her in dumping the baby.

“I have been saddened by a woman who delivered a bouncing baby boy and abandoned him after tying the baby with a tight rope on the neck, maybe trying to hang strangle him to die,” Sonko stated.

In a twist of events, the baby did not die but was rescued by a good Samaritan and rushed to Mukuru kwa Reuben Maternity Hospital.

In some of the photos, the medics at the facility were seen removing the rope on the neck as they tried to stabilize the baby.

“The condition of the baby is not very good, he has been transferred to Mama Lucy Hospital where doctors are trying to save his life,” Sonko added.

Condemning the inhumane act, the Nairobi Governor offering a reward of Ksh 100,000 to anyone who would give information leading to the arrest of the perpetrators of the heinous act.

“I wish instead of doing this to an innocent angel, the mother had come and reached out to well-wishers for help in raising him.

“Let’s pray for the baby to survive and lives to achieve the purpose for which God created him,” Sonko concluded.
