SURPRISING TWIST

The First Lady Margaret Kenyatta’s Beyond Zero Half Marathon 2019 edition had many controversies with it, but it also had its highlights, one of them being a woman who gave birth moments after participating in the event.

The woman, whose name was withheld, participated in the 2km category that was meant for expectant mothers.

She started experiencing labour pains and was rushed to Pumwani Maternity Hospital where she gave birth to a baby girl.

The child was named Margaret in honour of the first lady who is the founder of the marathon.

Confirming the surprising incident, coordinator of the pregnant women walk, Asha Wanjiku, told Capital FM that she was happy with the developments.

“We are happy with this walk, I have never seen pregnant women running or walking for distance but today we have done it and finished,” she stated.

“Pregnant women need to do practice and today, we have seen three taken to the hospital and one of them gave birth and the baby named Margaret after the First Lady,” Aisha concluded.

Another highlight of the event was Deputy President William Ruto who took part in the 21km category and completed without resting or walking midway.

Ruto thanked President Uhuru Kenyatta for promising to play his part to represent the Presidency in the remaining categories (2km and 5km) during the next event.

However, the DP reminded Uhuru that the 2km race category was a reserve of pregnant women.

“There is a small problem Sir. The 2km that you had indicated would be your first trial, I am told the category is for the expectant mothers.

“I don’t think you want to go and race with the pregnant mothers. You (Uhuru) have no choice but to start with the 5km,” the DP added as the crowd burst out in laughter.
