Playing wide; Tottenham Manager, Mauriccio Pochettino hints a possible Real Madrid job

Real Madrid is set to sack their current manager at any time and this weekend seems the most likely one following recent poor performance and exit from the Champions League in the hands of Ajax.

Mauricio Pochettino has claimed interest from Real Madrid is “positive” because “someone there has noticed that we’re doing our jobs well”.

The Spanish giants are set to sack current coach Santiago Solari after their humiliating midweek Champions League defeat to Ajax with Jose Mourinho available to return to his former club.

The Tottenham boss was the favourite to go to Manchester United this summer before Ole Gunnar Solksjaer’s extraordinary performance as caretaker boss.

And the Argentine, who played for and coached Espanyol, has now decided to advertise his desire to return to Spain in an interview with Spanish sports daily AS.

Asked about the interest from Real Madrid , Pochettino said: “I see it as something positive. It means that someone there has noticed that we’re doing our jobs well.

“My relationship with Spain will always be there. Hopefully one day I can go back there and play some winning football that people like to watch. I would consider going back. You should always remain open to new experiences and new projects.”

Solari and Pochettino are former Argentina team-mates. “I know him because we played together,” said the Spurs boss. “He is a colleague and it’s always frustrating and disappointing when teams like PSG or Real Madrid get knocked out of the big competitions.”

Pochettino is furious with the FA after being hit with a two-game touchline ban for angrily confronting referee Mike Dean after the recent defeat at Burnley .

And despite reaching the Champions League quarter-finals after not buying a player in the last two windows, there is still no date for Tottenham to move into their new stadium.

Asked if Real Madrid could make an offer for him and Harry Kane, Pochettino laughed and said: “This interview is going to make my president angry – or happy!”
