Arsenal players abused by Furious fans at the airport after Rennes defeat

Footage of Arsenal’s supporters taking aim at the club’s players in the aftermath of their surprise defeat to Rennes has emerged online.

Rennes 3-1 Arsenal
Arsenal travelled to France last night for the first-leg of their Europa League last-16 tie with Les Rouges et Noirs.

The Gunners no doubt headed into proceedings at Roazhon Park confident of securing a positive result, with Rennes’ form to this point in the campaign (10th in the Ligue 1 table) having left a lot to be desired.

And the hopes of Unai Emery’s men were buoyed by an early go-ahead goal, as Alex Iwobi notched his 5th of the season to set up what many assumed would be a comfortable evening for the visitors.

However, what unfolded over the subsequent 85 minutes in France saw Arsenal self-destruct, to dig themselves into a hole ahead of next week’s return-leg in North London.

After Sokratis Papastathopoulos was given his marching orders for a second bookable offence 5 minutes shy of half-time, Rennes immediately took advantage to pull level through Benjamin Bourigeaud.

Things got worse for the English giants just past the hour-mark, when Nacho Monreal put through his own net.

And a thoroughly-miserable night for all involved with Arsenal was capped off 2 minutes from time, when Ismaila Sarr netted a 3rd for Rennes, to send the hosts into the tie’s second-leg in firm control.

Arsenal fans take aim
As such, it came as little surprise to find that Arsenal’s supporters were left fuming with their side’s performance.

And a small section of the Gunners’ faithful made absolutely no secret of their frustrations in the aftermath of last night’s clash, having waited in the airport for the club’s squad to appear ahead of their flight back to London.

Arsenal’s players were targeted with shouts of ‘rubbish, shit and disgrace.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer Sends A CR7 Message To Man Utd Star Marcus Rashford

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer sends Cristiano Ronaldo message to Man Utd star Marcus Rashford | Football | Sport

Solskjaer’s coming off his biggest win as manager, having led his side to a famous 3-1 victory against Paris Saint-Germain at the Parc De Pricnes on Wednesday.

Manchester United overturned a 2-0 deficit from the first leg at Old Trafford to win the tie on away goals.

Rashford started both games for United and in the away leg he was pivotal in Romelu Lukaku’s second goal of the game, providing a palm-stinging shot that veteran goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon couldn’t hold on to.

The 21-year-old then stepped up to take a vital 94th-minute penalty in Paris that saw his club advance to the quarter finals of Europe’s elite competition.

Marcus Rashford has enjoyed his best ever goal=-scoring season so far, having notched nine in the Premier League and six in his last 11 games.

But Solskjaer, whose career at Old Trafford spanned 11 years under the tutelage of Sir Alex Ferguson, insists that Rashford becomes more clinical inside the box.

“I keep battering him with that he also should score as many goals as Rom [Lukaku],” Solskjaer said.

“You should always get those simple tap ins, finishes, like Rom’s scored the last few games.

“Rashy’s goals sometimes are worldies and he does have a sensational strike of the ball.

“But you see the change in Cristiano Ronaldo’s goals from when he was young to now, he scores more from inside the box and that’s what Rashy has to improve as well.”

Solskjaer then went on to note that his hopes for Rashford include becoming a one-club legend like Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes and Gary Neville.

UEFA explain Man Utd VAR handball decision against PSG

UEFA have moved to explain the decision to award Manchester United a last-gasp penalty which gave them the 3-1 win over Paris St Germain and a place in the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

Trailing 2-0 from the first-leg at Old Trafford, the Red Devils were leading 2-1 going into injury time on Wednesday night when a VAR-awarded spot-kick after Diogo Dalot’s shot struck Presnel Kimpembe on the arm allowed Marcus Rashford to fire in for a dramatic win on away goals.

There were split opinions on the award of the penalty with former Premier League official Peter Walton insisting there was no doubt, while Mark Clattenberg claimed it would not have been awarded in the domestic competition.

Jurgen Klopp sends out the best and funniest message to Liverpool fans ahead of Burnley clash

Liverpool could be four points adrift of Premier League title rivals Manchester City by the time they face Burnley at Anfield on Sunday.

City, who have a one point lead at the summit heading into the weekend, host Watford at the Etihad on Saturday evening. Despite Watford’s impressive form this season few will be backing the Hornets to conjure up a shock upset in Manchester, especially considering that they were hammered 5-0 by Liverpool late last month.

In his press-conference for the Burnley game, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has urged fans to get an early night in order to be fresh and ready to roar the team on to victory in the early kick-off on Sunday.

If Liverpool do secure the victory then the club will have eight more points (73) at this stage of the season (30 games) than at any time in their Premier League history. The Reds are currently enjoying a 35 game unbeaten run at home in the top-flight, dating back to 23 April 2017.

The Merseyside outfit, who have scored more than double Burnley’s goals this season, will be hoping Mo Salah finds his goalscoring touch on Sunday with the Egyptian without a goal in three Premier League games – if he fails to score against the Clarets then it will be the player’s longest drought in a Liverpool shirt.
