Sarri: Callum Hudson-Odoi won’t be a top player…

Chelsea hosted Dynamo Kyiv in the first leg of their round of 16 tie on Thursday.

The Blues would come away with a comfortable 3-0 and look all but certain to make it to the quarter-finals.

Pedro opened the scoring for Maurizio Sarri’s side in the 17th minute and the winger probably should have had his hat-trick in the first half.

However, Chelsea would have to wait till the 65th minute to double their advantage as Willian curled in a superb freekick.

Callum Hudson-Odoi would then come off the bench to combine with Ruben Loftus-Cheek for Chelsea’s third.

Hudson-Odoi impresses again

After an impressive substitute appearance by Hudson-Odoi, his Chelsea future is once again up for debate.

The 18-year-old was linked with a move to German outfit Bayern Munich in January but Chelsea refused to sell him.

Despite their reluctance to sell Hudson-Odoi, it doesn’t look as though he’ll be a regular starter anytime soon.

Speaking after their win over Kyiv, Sarri stated that he does not think Hudson-Odoi will be a top player for four or five years:

“He needs to improve because he can arrive at the top only at 22 or 23, like every other player. So I now think we need to improve without the pressure of the media, without the pressure of the fans, without the pressure of the club”
