The Kenya Airline Pilots Association (KALPA) has condemned the manner in which the airport users and personnel were treated during the strike and demanded for immediate release of aviation officials who were arrested during a strike on Wednesday morning.
KALPA secretary general Murithi Nyagah also condemned how airport users and personnel were treated during the strike.
Among those in custody are KAWU Secretary General Moses Ndiema and other officials arrested at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport during the strike.
He said the aviation workers were exercising their constitutional right in picketing and should not have been arrested.
“We call for the release of KAWU officials and urge all parties involved to embrace the spirit of dialogue, and make effort to amicably resolve the current stalemate,” read a statement released on March 8, 2019.
As Pilots, Cabin Crew and other Airport Personnel carry out their normal duties, KALPA is stressing on the need to have a safe, secure and positive work environment.
Flights were disrupted following a strike by the workers over a management row.
The Aviation Workers Union is protesting the proposed takeover of JKIA by Kenya Airways, a move that has seen huge losses running into millions as a result of tickets cancellation.
COTU Secretary General Francis Atwoli has asked the Aviation Workers to keep off work until their officials are released.
