Multiple demonstrations to take place in Nairobi on 8th March;US Embassy issues alert

The US Embassy, Nairobi has issued an alert about multiple demonstrations that are expected to take place in Nairobi on Friday, March 8, 2019.

The first protest is dubbed Say No To Femicide that is in support of women’s rights and started at 8.am.

The organisers have staged the march to protest the murder of women and ladies in the recent past.

The march will commence at Freedom Corner and end at the Supreme Court building. 

Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris is expected to participate in the protest. 

The second demonstration is in protest of rampant corruption in the country. 

The US Embassy has learnt from the organisers that thousands of people are expected to participate in the People’s March corruption protest.

“Organizers claim there will be approximately 100,000 demonstrators attending the anti-corruption event.  U.S. government personnel are advised to avoid the downtown area,” read a statement by the embassy. 

The participants’ activities that commenced at 8am will be around Parliament road and Harambee Avenue. 

The Embassy has directed its personnel to avoid the protest areas and monitor local media for updates. 

Those that will be unexpectedly caught up in the vicinity of the protests have been advised to exercise caution and to call the Embassy for assistance.
