Abandoned Even in Death: Migori Witches Accorded A Not So Pleasant Burial

The People of Migori County seem to be people who don’t mix their words. They say what they mean and mean what they say.

Well, last week saw 6 People killed by an angry mob for allegedly associating themselves with witchcraft.

The Six were found in the Home of a man who is said to be a notorious witchdoctor in Nyangau Village, Rongo Sub County.

The Six, now dead would later see members of their community fail to even attend their burial to pay their last respects meaning thet even in death the People of Nyangau Village see them as outcasts.

Rongo deputy police boss Boaz Magabi was however quick to pin-point that their funeral was boycotted by most villagers for fear of being arrested by police who are still investigating the crime.

“We are not arresting anybody in the village, but we are keen on arresting those who were responsible for the deaths and those who prevented police from accessing the scene to rescue the victims,” he said.

The police boss said they have managed to arrest several suspects from the area, while those who managed to escape are being hunted down.

Already nine suspects; Lucas Nyandiga, John Onyango, Ben Omondi, John Odeka, Joseph Ojowi, Mary Scholastica Auma, Bernard Ochieng Odira, Bernard Odek Nyagwara and Colince Odhiambo have been arraigned at the Migori High Court over the incident.
