Residents of Karimantiri in Maua ward, Igembe South constituency, Meru county said they feel neglected by the national government.

They have petitioned the national government to tarmack Maua-Karimantiri that connect Igembe South constituency and Igembe North, reports Radio Africa.

James Mukaria a resident said the road could ease traffic jams in Maua if it is tarmacked.

Mukaria,an octogenerian said the road has been used by many politicians since 1963 to seek votes and hasn’t been tarmacked.

“They pass through here and promise to have it tarmacked if we vote for them but they disappear when we give them our votes.We Carry sick on our backs after laying them on beds.We also carry dead on our backs,” Mukaria said.

Nominated MCA said  Ruth Kananu said they are yet to see the impact of government in addressing their issues.

“We have alot of challenge when we want to bury our people because hearse cannot access our roads.When people are sick we also strain to take them to hospital,” Kananu said.

She said when president Uhuru Kenyatta was campaigned he pledged to have 15 kilometres of roads tarmacked which hasn’t happened almost two years down the line.

She said President Uhuru Kenyatta had promised to have road tarmacked in the 2014-2015 budget as it was among the 15 kilometres.

“We are one of the biggest contributors of revenue in towns across the country we atleast give Kenya Revenue Authority one  billion in year through Miraa farming yet we get poor services in return.What is the value for our money ,” Kananu said.

The vocal nominated legislator said title deeds is also a major problem as majority do not have and cannot lease,take loans or sell land.

“Many residents in the outskirts of Maua town have also lived for years without electricity.We wonder if Rural Electrification is not active in the town,” She said.

She said President Uhuru Kenyatta should consider Maua in his big four agenda.
