Rashford’s 94th-minute VAR-awarded penalty sent United fans delirious as they secured a historic comeback to knock PSG out of the Champions League on penalties.
And Martial posted a video on Instagram of how he celebrated the moment – shouting and fist pumping at Rashford’s last-gasp goal which secured United’s progress to the quarter finals on away goals.
In the build up to Rashford’s thunderous spot-kick, Martial is captured on video doing the sign of the cross and kneeling on the floor while only a couple of feet away from his TV.
Before the 21-year-old began his run up Martial willed on his team-mate.
“Come on Rashy, come on Rashy,” he said.
Then pointing to the sky with his gaze fixed on his television Martial watched on in anticipation before breaking out into celebration.
As the ball rocketed into the top corner, the French striker shouted “oui” several times, which translates to yes in English.
The 23-year-old didn’t travel with the United squad to Paris, as he’s recovering from a groin strain, but that didn’t limit his animated celebration.
Martial posted the caption “Well done boys I’m so happy” alongside the video on Instagram.
United fielded a weakened side at the Parc de Princes, with Martial joined by Alexis Sanchez, Juan Mata, Nemanja Matic and Jesse Lingard on the injury list while Paul Pogba was suspended.
Pogba was equally ecstatic with the results as he watched on alongside Patrice Evra from the stands in Paris, with both seemingly taunting PSG fans with their celebrations.
After the final whistle United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer admitted United now “fancy ourselves” in the Champions League.
“We always believe, that’s the thing,” Solskjaer said.
“We set out the plan. It wasn’t about having the ball and outplaying them.
“If give this team too much space and time, with Mbappe, we saw a few times in the first half when we missed our defensive shape and they were through us straight away.
“The plan was to get the first goal and be in the game with five or 10 minutes to go and we were.
“The belief in the boys was just what we hoped for.
“Of course, there was a great start. We set out a plan to get the first goal.
“We didn’t expect it after two minutes, but that made it more open for us. We wanted many goals in the game.”
United will find out who they face next in Europe’s elite completion when the draw for the quarter-finals takes place on Friday 15 March.
