Tottenham manager fined and given two-game touchline ban

An angry Pochettino confronted Dean as the final whistle went

Mauricio Pochettino’s joy at seeing Tottenham reach the Champions League quarter-finals has been tempered by a two-match touchline ban.

The Spurs manager watched his side beat Borusia Dortmund 1-0  in the second leg of their last-16 tie, with Harry Kane scoring the goal that earned them a 4-0 aggregate win.

But at 9am on Wednesday morning it was announced Pochettino was banned and also hit with a £10,000 fine by the Football Association for his conduct after the defeat to Burnley, which saw him involved in a heated clashed with Mike Dean.

A statement from the FA read: “The Tottenham Hotspur manager accepted an improper conduct charge from The FA, which resulted from his language and/or behaviour – both on the pitch and in or around the tunnel area – at the end of the game against Burnley on 23 February.”

The manager will now be forced to sit in the stands for the trip to Southampton on 9 March and will remain there for the game at Anfield against Liverpool on 31 March.

After the Dortmund game, Pochettino hinted a ban was coming when he misinterpreted a question in his post-match press conference.

“I am not going to talk because it is easy to pay with me and you are going to see tomorrow why I am not going to talk,” he said.

“I am very disappointed, I don’t think that is going to change but I don’t care, we are going to be strong.

“If are not going to receive a help from our football people in our country only I can laugh. You are going to see tomorrow why I am not so happy with the people.”

He then appeared to nod when asked if he was getting a touchline ban.
