Police injustice has for along time been a bone of contention between the ordinary mwananchi and police officers in Kenya.

A recent alleged misbehaviour has seen suspect who was arraigned in a Mombasa court to respond to charges of robbery with violence move the Magistrate and entire court to tears as he narrated how police officers tortured him after he was arrested.

The suspect, who appeared in court with his head wrapped with a bandage, seemed overwhelmed and strained to stand in the chambers during the proceedings.

Ali Ibrahim Aloice alias Mbala Mbala told the court the officers clobbered him ruthlessly alleging that they had intentions of killing him.

“The police officers at Makupa hit me ruthlessly, they wanted to kill me. One of them even threatened to ensure I am dead,” said the suspect.

Mombasa Senior Principal Magistrate Henry Nyakweba who seemingly sympathised with his condition questioned the prosecution for locking up the suspect whose health condition was deteriorating.

“The court is not a hospital am wondering why the accused person is like this in my court. He is a Kenyan and a human being. This is unacceptable!” said the magistrate.

Nyakweba ordered that the suspect be taken to hospital for treatment. The magistrate further summoned Urban Police Station OCPD to appear in court to respond to the allegations raised by the victim.

This closely follows an incident in Busia yesterday where a GSU officer was forced to physically discipline police men harassing boda boda men through bribes.
