KEBS boss accused of being in contempt of court

The Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) acting Manager Bernard Nguyo appeared in court on Wednesday, where he was summoned for being in contempt of court over counterfeited ‘mercury’ fertiliser.

This was after a Moroccan firm charged in the mercury-fertiliser scandal applied to have the KEBS acting MD summoned.

They want him to show cause why he should not be sent to jail for disobeying orders requiring him to conduct a fresh test of the said fertiliser for traces of mercury.

In his directive, Magistrate Kenneth Cheruiyot said that the court was convinced that the official was aware of the existing court orders to have fertilisers retested and deliberately decided not to comply.

Mr Nguyo is expected to appear in court next Tuesday, March 12, 2019.
