‘Female bodies have the right to be recognised by the public’ says popular musician

The South African pant less dancer Zodwa Wabantu is not ready to apologise for going nude. After photos of her exposing herself emerged online, Wabantu said that it was about time people had a conversation on sexuality.

Wabantu explained that women are‘shackled by norms and rules created by men and that it was time to free the female body. She said that people need to accept that women’s bodies are not taboo, exist and have the right to be recognised by the public.

She said; “Look, people need to #FreeTheV****a from all these chains. There are so many dos and don’ts about v*****s and most of these were created by men or by women who are influenced by man-made rules. There’s nothing wrong with my v****a… it’s not a taboo subject to talk about and if people didn’t sexualise it or attach negative connotations to it, we would all be okay and free.

The picture that started everything was from a photoshoot. It was a secure location and the photoshoot was part of the campaign we are working on that to start these dialogues around all the rules that have been made about women and their v*****s. At some point, people need to accept that we have these things and we will do with them as we wish.”
