How Man City Could Convince Liverpool To Sell Center-Back Virgil

Monday was a good day for Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk.

The Dutch centre-half was named the Premier League’s January player of the month.

VVD won the PFA award ahead of Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero, Aymeric Laporte and Raheem Sterling, Burnley’s Ashley Barnes and Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba.

In his weekly column in the Mirror, Stan Collymore has told Man City that their number one target this summer should be Liverpool’s van Dijk.

Van Dijk joined the Reds from Southampton for 75 million pounds.

The 27-year-old is under contract at Anfield until 2023.

Stating the obvious, it’s incredibly unlikely that Liverpool would ever sell such a prized-asset to a league rival.

Yet Collymore believes City could try to convince the Reds to sell with the following deal:

I’d offer John Stones and Nicolas Otamendi plus £150million for the Dutchman and I wouldn’t stop until Liverpool accepted my offer was simply too good to turn down.

If City want to become the dominant force they say they want to, then going all out for him would be a no-brainer.

After 29 matches in the league season, Man City are a point above Liverpool in the table.

The Reds dropped two more points last Sunday in a 0-0 draw at Everton.

As for the Sky Blues, Man City won 1-0 at Bournemouth on Saturday thanks to a goal from Riyad Mahrez.
