The entry of Gatundu South Member of Parliament Moses Kuria into the 2022 presidential race has continued to elicit mixed reactions across different political camps.
Kuria has on several occasions declared that just like Deputy President William Ruto, he is also on a mission to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Ruto’s supporters believe that the DP rallied Rift Valley residents to massively vote for Uhuru in 2013 and 2017 and he, therefore, deserves to be paid back in 2022.
Residents in the region are determined to ensure that their son rises to power but are now questioning whether the Mt Kenya region will support Ruto’s bid or desert him in favour of Kuria.
However, Kuria is no doubt DP Ruto’s project whose role is to consolidate Mt Kenya’s votes in case President Uhuru fails to endorse his DP come 2022. It should be remembered that Kuria is Ruto’s close confidant and hails from President Uhuru’s Gatundu South constituency.
Kuria on many occasions had vowed to stand with Ruto and promised to ensure that Ruto clinches the presidential seat in 2022.
His bid will receive the support of the GEMA community who will want their own to be the president but the truth is that Kuria’s name will not be on the ballot as he will instead shelf his bid in support of Ruto.
This will ensure that Ruto garners all the maximum votes from Mt Kenya region to clinch the presidential seat and become the next president of the Republic of Kenya.
