Pochettino reportedly saved Torreira from the prolonged ban

Arsenal were held to a 1-1 draw at Wembley. At the end of the game, Lucas Torreira picked up a straight red card for bringing down Tottenham’s Danny Rose.

Yes, it looks like Lucas’ tackle did not deserve to be punished by a red card as he had no intention of causing damage to Rose. And that’s what Arsenal man was going to try and explain to the referee Anthony Taylor. To be honest, this wasn’t the best idea, confronting the referee, especially when the player is still fuming could lead to the match ban being prolonged.

Evening Standard claim it was Mauricio Pochettino who talked Torreira out of this. The two had a conversation in the tunnel in Spanish, it is said Spurs boss calmed Arsenal man down and admitted he believes the player had no intention of hurting Rose, that it was a genuine attempt to play the ball. He reportedly advised Torreira not to take his anger out on Taylor and his assistant.
