Barcelona star defender Gerald Pique forced to explain his hand gesture to Real fans

Football players have found themselves on the wrong side in the field for various reasons, foul plays, intentional tackles well as gestures that they make to fellow players or to the fans and Pique found himself in the cage to explain himself after he was caught gesturing to the fans

Gerard Pique has explained his gesture to Real Madrid fans in last El Clasico clash with Real over the weekend.

The Barcelona defender made a mouthing gesture with his hand at half-time as his side triumphed 1-0. His actions followed Sergio Ramos’ elbow on Lionel Messi which drew blood from the superstar’s mouth.

And Pique explained: “Leo had blood on his lip. It was aggressive [from Ramos] and it seemed like a red card to me.

“With the gesture, I was referring to the fact they talk about referees and VAR but sometimes things go in their favour.

“I made the talking gesture because they complain many times and then the referees whistle in their favour.”

“Pulses are racing at 1,000 miles an hour and it was just a general gesture. I don’t regret it, it was how I felt at that moment. I like it when the atmosphere heats up and [the gesture] was to get it going a little bit more.

Barcelona moved 10 points clear at the top of LaLiga thanks to Ivan Rakitic’s goal in the first half. Rakitic scored the game’s only goal after 26 minutes when he chipped the ball over Thibaut Courtois and into the net.

Barcelona have moved 12 points clear of Los Blancos and 10 ahead of second-place Atletico Madrid, who played against Real Sociedad.

However, manager Ernesto Valverde is not about to put the champagne on ice just yet.

“We still have a whole world in front of us. We know Madrid can win a lot of consecutive games, Atletico Madrid are still there too,” the Barcelona coach said.

“Until (the title is) mathematically secure, we will keep battling.”
