Two police officers died while 10 other people were injured in an accident at on the Likoni-Lunga Lunga highway in Kwale County.
The accident which happened on Monday morning occurred after a tuk-tuk ferrying the two officers collided head-on with a 14-seater heading to Lunga-Lunga.
Confirming the deaths, Matuga OCPD Joel Chesire said investigations were underway to establish the cause of the accident.
“The officers died on the spot when the tuk-tuk they were travelling in was involved in an accident. The tuk-tuk driver sustained serious injuries,” Mr Chesire said.
Statistics by the National Transport and Safety Authority indicated that 184 people have lost their lives in the country on the road since the year began.
According to the survey results, this number was slightly lower than those who perished by the same date in 2018 in which the number was 212.
NTSA also noted that pedestrians remained the most vulnerable road users with 72 of them having been killed.
