Siaya Governor vows allegiance to corrupt officials

Politicians are increasingly revealing their subjection to corruption as a God that they worship.As the continues to be heightened some like Siaya Governor Cornel Rasanga have vowed that they wouldn’t dare fire any corrupt officials.

While speaking at a public participation forum in Siaya, Rasanga stated that some of those who are mentioned in corruption scandals are his allies.

As such, it’s hard to dismiss them since he might need their votes when he is contesting for another seat in future.

The second-term governor further stated they have dependents who might suffer if they are sacked.

“What do I do? I cannot sack them since they are my people and some have families to raise,” Rasanga stated.

He went on to reveal that he was afraid of visiting some county departments because of the level of corruption.

The firing of sports CS Richard Echesa was negatively taken by Western leaders like Mumias East MP Benjamin Washiali who had similar opinion to Rasanga.

“This has caught us by surprise. We are feeling so low in our spirits and we feel left out. We are no longer part of the government,” he said.

He added, “It cannot be that every time someone needs to be punished in the government then it should be someone from Western. The other day Bungoma senator Moses Wetang’ula was dewhiped as senate Minority leader and replaced by someone from Nyanza. The person who has indirectly taken over from Echesa in the education docket also hails from Nyanza. Is Western region being sacrificed”.
