Tottenham ace crowned Premier League Player of the Year

Tottenham forward Heung-Min Son was named the Premier League Player of the Year at the London Football Awards on Thursday night.

In a star-studded evening in the capital, the South Korean ace was recognised for his brilliant form in a Spurs shirt this term.

Son’s 16 goals and nine assists in 34 matches has helped Tottenham to third in the Premier League and on the brink of a place in the Champions League last eight.

What makes his form even more impressive is that he missed weeks of action for his club on international duty, leading South Korea to gold at the 2018 Asian Games.

He won the gong ahead of team-mate Harry Kane, Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Chelsea star Eden Hazard and Crystal Palace winger Andros Townsend.

The award was voted for by a panel of 22 experts, including former players Bobby Zamora, Bob Wilson and Tony Cottee.

Meanwhile, West Ham midfielder Declan Rice was named the Young Player of the Year, after a brilliant breakthrough which has seen him become a key first-team players for the Hammers.

The 20-year-old, who recently switched his international allegiance from Republic of Ireland to England, has made 29 appearances so far this season.

Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino was also named Manger of the Year, and sent a message to his critics when he collected the gong, telling the crowd: “Finally, I have a trophy!”
