Robbo Makes Exciting Prediction For ‘Best In The World’ Team-Mate

Andy Robertson absolutely loves playing alongside Virgil van Dijk.

The Scot is regularly fed perfect passes by our brilliant Dutchman, who plays as our left-sided centre-back so is the closest player to Robbo on the pitch.

So, we trust our left-back’s opinion on van Dijk perhaps more than anybody else!

According to the 24-year-old, van Dijk is the best defender on the planet at the moment and is the top candidate for the Premier League Player of the Year award.

Tellingly, he thinks VVD will get even better, as well.

“He makes my life easier, that’s for sure,” Robertson told Goal. “To have him next to me, it makes everything so much easier. When somebody is running at you, you know Virgil is inside because he’s rarely out of position, if ever.

“For me, he’s the best centre-back just now in the world, down to the way he’s playing and the confidence he’s got.

“And he’s still young enough that he can get even better. He works hard every day.

“If the season ended now, I would give him it [the Player of the Season award]. Virgil can take it to a whole new level, I reckon. He’s so consistent as well.

“If he puts the performances in during the last 10 games as he has done, there’s no reason why he shouldn’t have that trophy.”

We’ve heard from Jurgen Klopp before that van Dijk can improve, but we’re not sure how!

He’s barely made a mistake all season. The one we can think of is the foul for the penalty against Manchester City at Anfield, but Riyad Mahrez thankfully blasted over…

Perhaps he can use his phenomenal aerial ability to find the back of the net more often? His brace against Watford is evidence that he’s more than capable of scoring quite regularly.

Hopefully he can get a few more before the end of the season, but it’s his hunger for clean-sheets that remains the most crucial attribute!
