The German champions are looking to upgrade their options at left back by adding the 23-year-old World Cup winner from Atletico Madrid Lucas Hernandez.

Christian Falk from BILD has reported the news this morning and it’s definitely a story worth following as it has appeared in French, Spanish and German press. Bayern chief Uli Hoeness has insisted that they will pay the player’s buyout clause if that’s necessary to get a deal done.

Hernandez was the first choice left back for France at the World Cup in 2018, after taking his opportunity when Benjamin Mendy sustained a long-term injury.

The Frenchman is also capable at centre but has started to specialise as a left fullback and became the first choice in that position at Atletico Madrid until sustaining a ligament injury in December.

Bayern’s current options at left back don’t go much deeper than David Alaba, after they sold Spaniard Juan Bernat to Paris Saint-Germain.
