Police have arrested five suspects after they threw a live grenade at the officers who were chasing them.
The five were arrested along Thika Road on Monday night after robbing an Mpesa shop in Huruma.
According to a police report “the gang had stolen an unknown amount of money from the shop and was escaping when they bumped into police officers on patrol,”
They declined to stop, and instead raced off on motorcycles prompting a police chase.
The five suspects were in a gang of nine that was spotted riding at high speed on three motor cycles near Mathare 29/30 terminus.
The officers recovered a hand propelled grenade, three phones and several flash disks.
The suspects, Kevin Opiyo Onyango (24), Maricus Odhiambo (30), Moses Okiri Nyarianga (21), Collins Juma Oduor (19), and Samwel Wanyoike Njeri (19) are set to be arraigned in court later in the day.
