Former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy believes that Philippe Coutinho would not be welcome back at Anfield and re-signing the Brazilian from Barcelona is not an option.

Coutinho battled with the club’s hierarchy to land a move to the LaLiga giants in January 2018, following months of speculation, handing in a transfer request and eventually sealing an exit for a reported fee of £142m.

However, the Brazil international has struggled to find his feet in Catalonia under the guidance of Ernesto Valverde and the chances of his situation took a hit earlier this month when Valverde extended his contract at the club.

There has been talk of Coutinho returning to the Premier League with Manchester United one club said to be interested in the Brazilian.

Liverpool, you would assume, would also been keen to take the midfielder back for the right price given the fact he was sensational in his final season at the club.

But former Reds midfielder Murphy doesn’t think the deal would ever be sanctioned.

Jurgen Klopp has previously sought to play down any suggestion of Liverpool looking to bring the Brazilian back, and Murphy doubts any deal would be done for the 26-year-old.

The ex-Reds midfielder told Sportingbet: “Coutinho would never be welcomed back at Liverpool.

“It hasn’t worked out for him at Barcelona, but he made his bed by declaring how much he wanted to leave and now he has to sleep in it.

“I think even if Liverpool thought it was something they wanted, the fans would make it perfectly clear it wasn’t acceptable and would force them to pull the plug.

“The fans didn’t necessarily begrudge him his move to Barcelona, but he left himself no way to come back.”
