Police in Kitale are on high alert after locals torched a police vehicle that had killed four people in a grisly road accident along the Kitale-Kachibora road.
According to witnesses, the police vehicle knocked a motorbike that had lost balance after its front tyre bust. The boda boda was then hit by an over speeding police car.
The rider and his three passengers, a mother and her two school going children, died on the spot.
Irate residents who gathered at the bloody scene then ganged on the driver of the ill fated vehicle but he ran to a nearby church.

Police have used tear gas to disperse the angry mob.
