Oktay targets away point to secure quarter-finals spot

Gor Mahia Head Coach Hassan Oktay has affirmed that the team’s best chance of progressing to the Quarter Finals of the CAF Confederations Cup is by at least getting a point away to Algeria’s Hussein Dey in the return leg on Sunday.

The Cypriot also admits that the team missed the services of striker Dennis Oliech, who missed the match because of an ongoing stand-off with the Kenya Premier League defending champions.

A brilliant performance from Kenyan Champions Gor Mahia saw them see off Algeria’s Hussein Dey 2-0 in a 1st Leg Group D match played at the Kasarani Stadium.

The win, courtesy of goals from Francis Kahata and Jacques Tuyisenge, saw K’Ogallo go top of the group on six points from three games, as Zamalek of Egypt dropped points at home after settling to a 1-1 draw with Petro Atletico of Angola.

Despite being impressed by his charges in Sunday’s win, Oktay, insists that the team must pick at least a point in the return leg scheduled for Sunday in Algeria, if they are to progress to the quarter-finals of the competition for the first time in club’s history.

Meanwhile, the 17 time Kenya Premier League champions turn their attention to the domestic league, where they are scheduled to face off against Former Champions Tusker FC at Kasarani.

Gor is 3rd on the Log on 26 points, a point ahead of 4th placed Tusker FC.
