Gender bill defeated three times to go another round

Parliamentarians are Wednesday booked to cast a ballot on the tricky Amendment Bill, 2018, that looks to actualize the two-thirds rule on gender.

National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi encouraged lawmakers to attend the session for the vote even as he coordinated the Committee on Implementation of the Constitution (CIOC), led by Ndaragwa MP Jeremiah Kioni, to table a write on the views of minority groups such Women, youth and people living with handicaps.

Muturi made the comments after Majority leader Aden Duale said the House Business Committee (HBC) had set Wednesday evening as the casting a ballot day on the bill.

Duale said House authority had coordinated Majority Whip Benjamin Washiali, his appointee Cecily Mbarire and Minority Whip Junet Mohammed and his representative Chris Wamalwa to assemble MPs to guarantee the bill is passed.
