Corrupt EACC officials colluded in the SGR scam

The Ethics and Anti-corruption Commission (EACC)  Chief Executive Officer Twalib Mbarak, is investigating claims that his officers have been colluding with their National Land Commission counterparts to defeat justice.

It is said that senior workers at EACC had failed to work on the files implicating NLC officials, in fraudulent compensation and valuation of Standard Gauge Railway(SGR) land due to their vested interests.

A local daily has reported Mr Mbarak as having ordered all pending files concerning NLC investigations to be forwarded to his desk, for determination of the next course of action. The anti-graft body is seeking an expeditious action on the corruption files, that have stagnated despite the completion of investigations.

The paper reported that among the files being combed through  include the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR), Phase One compensation, that caused a standoff between the commission and those who claimed to be the residents deserving compensation. The paper reports NLC officials had conspired with EACC personnel to pay undeserving people and companies billions of shillings. On august last year  then NLC chairman Muhammad Swazuri and other officials from the government were arrested over Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) compensation, that saw government lose billions of shillings.
