DCI Kinoti Tipped To Replace IG Boinet

The National Security Council (NSC) chaired by President Uhuru Kenyatta has been holding a series of meetings in recent weeks to discuss who will replace police IG Joseph Boinnet who has served in the position since March 2015.

Highly placed sources reveal that the council has come with a shortlist of seven candidates from the National Police Service (NPS) and security agencies as possible successors.

Insiders within the NPS disclosed that DCI George Kinoti, Deputy Inspector-General Edward Mbugua andNoor Gabow are being considered for the position. Former National Counter Terrorism Centre Director Isaac Ochieng and General Service Unit Commandant Douglas Kanja are also in the list.

Director of Corporate Communications Charles Owino and the Police Training College Commandant Kingóri Mwangi were also mentioned as some of the potential candidates for the position.

On Tuesday, Uhuru appointed Eliud Kinuthia to succeed Johnston Kavuludi as National Police Service Commission (NPSC) chairman. He also  appointed Lilian Kiamba, Eusebius Laibuta, Naphtaly Rono, Alice Otwala and John ole Moyaki members of the commission. If approved by the National Assembly, they will serve for five years.
