Could Hudson-Oboi Save Sarri’s Job as Other Chelsea Players ‘Disobey’?

Only regular football might change Callum Hudson-Odoi’s mind to join Paris Saint-Germain with Chelsea’s boss Maurizio Sarri only giving him just 19 minutes in two substitute appearances over the past three weeks which has been bizarre to most fans to say the least.

Understandably, the England Under-21 international got the loudest cheer when his name was read out as part of the first XI before the kick-off.

And their brightest spark had been Hudson-Odoi, finally granted a first start since the closure of the transfer window and his failed attempt to move to Bayern Munich, and a player who had appeared freer in spirit than the rest.

Sarri, who clearly has been sidelining the sensational teenager has stated Chelsea will need to sell a winger if they are to keep Hudson-Odoi at the club beyond this season.

The Blues cruised to a 3-0 Europa League victory over Malmo on Thursday night, with Hudson-Odoi bagging the third and final goal to secure the win.

The 18-year-old winger was making his third start in the Europa League, but still awaits the same chance in the Premier League, where he has been limited to just four substitute appearances.

It was another impressive performance from the winger, and Sarri stated he played “very well” after the match.

When asked what Hudson-Odoi needs to do to start in the Premier League, Sarri said: “You need to understand that, in the same position, we have Pedro, Willian and Hazard, so it’s not easy for a young player to play with the consistency with his team-mates.

“I want to remind you that Callum, with this one, played 14 matches. There isn’t in England another 18-year-old player with 14 matches in the first-team. So I think that we are using him in the right way at the moment.

“Of course, the 20 matches this season will be 30 matches in the next, and 40 in two years. Also, I think that the club has to decide.

“If I am at the club and I want Callum on the club consistently, I have to sell another winger. Otherwise the manager is in trouble.”

Chelsea assistant Gianfranco Zola previously claimed Hudson-Odoi was liked by the coaches and challenged him to force his way past the Chelsea veterans in the line-up.

Chelsea’s next contest comes in the Carabao Cup final Sunday against Manchester City, who hammered them in the Premier League 6-0 on February 10.
