The KWS has warned the public to be alert as wild animals are on the loose in search of pasture and water following the dry spell experienced in the country.
A statement released on Friday morning said there may be increased human-wildlife conflict as was seen two years ago.
“The public is also advised not to set fires close to protected areas as these fires are likely going to cross over into the protected areas and further worsen the human wildlife conflict as wildlife exit to public areas,” KWS said.
Areas already affected by the displacement of wildlife include Narok, Taita Taveta, Laikipia, Kajiado, Meru, Mau, Marsabit, Lamu and the Mt. Kenya region.
In February 2017, there were reports of monkeys breaking into houses and stealing food in different parts of the country.
Herders taking their livestock to drink water also reportedly faced hungry crocodiles which killed 1000 goats in one month.
Starving baboons also wreaked havoc in Baringo.
KWS has however assured the public that foot, vehicle and aerial patrols have been intensified to manage the situation.
This as the weatherman indicates that the dry spell is expected to continue in several parts of the country with Nairobi to record temperatures as high as 30degrees.
