You’re un-roadworthy,NTSA tells Green line bus as it suspends the fleet giving conditions for comeback

Although accidents, road carnage and deaths from road accidents reduced by the end of last year especially during the festive season, it still remains a high human threat and the government is not taking it lightly.The National Transport and Safety Authority(NTSA) has suspended Green Line Bus Company Limited.

NTSA, in a press release suspended the license to the bus company three days after an accident at Kamara area.The accident which claimed nine lives involved a bus belonging to Green Line and a trailer.The accident occurred as the driver of the bus attempted to overtake several vehicles at a corner with a continuous yellow line, thus colliding head-on with the oncoming trailer.

“Following the tragic traffic accident that occurred on February 17, 2019 at Kamara area involving a vehicle registration number KBN 701N belonging to Green Line Bus Company where nine innocent lives were lost, the Authority has suspended the operator’s license,” read a part of the press release.

NTSA said the suspension was in line with Section 34 of the NTSA Act.The suspension, NTSA noted was also necessitated by the continued traffic violations and taking into consideration levels of compliance of the operator with Public Service Vehicles Regulations, 2014.

The suspension will however be lifted upon Green Line compliance with set conditions.NTSA has set six conditions to be met by the operator which include the need for them to comply with the legally defined branding as detailed in the operation of Public Service Regulations, 2014 for all its vehicles.

Other conditions include, the need by the operator to comply with inspections at NTSA Motor vehicle inspection centers for all its motor vehicles and road safety training for all it driver, conductors, owners and company officials.

The bus company NTSA said should reinstate the fleet management systems with all its vehicles.In the press release the Traffic Department has been advised to impound any vehicles belonging to the company found operating contrary to the suspension.“The Traffic Department has been advised to impound any vehicles belonging to the company contrary to the suspension,” read the press release.
