Serious Vandalism Done to Dongo Kundu Bypass After Truck Accident. Kenyans, Why??

A section of the multi-billion shilling bypass at Dongo Kundu has been stripped clean after an accident with a truck close to the Port of Mombasa.

Changamwe police boss Peter Omanwa said the driver of the truck was heading to Nairobi before he lost control of the vehicle during the 6 am incident.
The truck crashed into the pillars of a tunnel along the bypass causing part of the roof to tumble down.

As a result of the accident, one of the roads was closed because the roof of the tunnel had blocked the lane that was heading to Nairobi.

Unfortunately, the Kenya National Highways Authority has stated that the bypass is Kenya’s most expensive road, which cost Sh2.7 billion per kilometre.

If that’s not enough, robbers made away with the expensive steel, a precious commodity used in the jua cali industry.

As of now, the Highway Authority is yet to determine the cost of damage caused by the accident.

The 11km bypass runs from the Second Container Terminal and joins the Mombasa-Nairobi highway at Bonje.

It was constructed by the China Engineering Construction Company and was opened last year.
