The absence of Dele Alli and Harry Kane through injury was meant to derail Tottenham Hotspur’s bid for Premier League and Champions League glory but they have continued to pick up positive results in impressive fashion.
Heung-min Son has ensured the loss of two of Tottenham’s most important players has barely been noticed in recent weeks. The South Korean has been in quite sensational form as he has scored 16 goals and laid on nine assists in 32 appearances for Spurs in all competitions this season. That is some return for a player who has been away on Asian Cup duty with his country.
Son is proving to be something of a lucky charm for manager Mauricio Pochettino too as he has scored in 13 different games for Tottenham this season and the North London side have won all 13.
Tottenham’s ‘Lucky Charm’s is putting forward a serious case for consideration as far as the PFA Player of the Year award, as well as a place in the PFA Team of the Year, as we move towards the business end of the campaign,
Son has scored 11 goals in the league so far this season and he has hit upon a quite ridiculous run of form. After going five Premier League games without a goal or an assist at the start of the season, Son has since scored 11 goals and laid on six assists in his last 13 league outings, averaging a goal or an assist every 64 minutes on average during that run.
When looking at the season as a whole, Son’s average of a goal every 123 minutes he has been on the pitch is second to only the irrepressible Manchester City forward Sergio Aguero, who has scored every 99 minutes on average.
Son’s current minutes-per-goal ratio is even better than his prolific teammate, Harry Kane, who averages a goal every 135 minutes.
With Kane set to return to the team for this weekend’s game against Burnley, Tottenham appear to be in rude health and Son can take plenty of credit for that.
