UN establishes new measures to curb sexual harassment of its employees

The United Nations on Tuesday announced its new plan towards tackling sexual exploitation and abuse within its ranks.

According to a statement by UN-Secretary General, Antonio Guterress, the UN will in the new step use the help of an array of experts who will advise the secretary-general on ways to address gender-based harassment and abuse by UN staff and UN-related forces.

This comes as the UN has over time been plagued by cases of sexual abuse and harassment among its employees.

Such is reflected in a last month report by the UN, saying that one-third of its staff and contractors had experienced sexual harassment in the past two years.

The survey was completed by more than 30,000 people from the UN, its agencies and contractors.
