Police in Litein, Kericho County, have launched an hunt for gangsters who hacked to death a woman, fatally injured her husband and raped 3 of their daughters on Wednesday morning.
The four-man gang is reported to have descended on the old man while he was asleep and robbed him of Ksh. 5000, his mobile phone before fatally hitting his wife Anna Chepkwony on the head.
The gang that was armed with knives, chisels and iron bars also attacked the house help, Sheila Cherotich, leaving her unconscious.
During the 4am incident, the couple’s three daughters aged between 11- 29 years were sexually assaulted.
The man and his three daughters plus their maid were rushed to Litein Mission Hospital with severe injuries.
“It is a gory scene; blood is splashed all over. The police have cordoned off the scene of crime. It is not known yet what the criminals were after,” a neighbor Mr Geoffrey Rono Katares told The Nation.
Litein police boss Mr Ali Abdi has confirmed the incident.
According to Kericho County commandant James Mugera, 78-year old Kiplangat Chepkwony was seriously injured after he was hit on the head with a blunt object.
Residents of the area are reported to have called for help but momentarily disallowed the police from moving the deceased’s remains decrying the rising levels of insecurity in the area.
It is in this same area that a teacher and his wife were brutally murdered.
Last year, a couple was killed in the town in a similar attack.
