Devolution has been lauded by many Kenyans for helping bring development to the grassroots. Even at this, it has continued to face many challenges with cases of corruption and embezzlement of funds making headlines day in day out.
The latest county to be hit with allegations of corruption is Samburu County where the Governor, Moses Lenolkulal is accused of defrauding the County of 2 billion shillings.
Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission detectives this morning raided Lenolkulal’s Nairobi and Samburu residences in search of any relevant eveidence that will help them unravel the mystery behind the 2 billion shillings loss.
The officers arrived at his Karen home this morning and have been going through documents.
Another team is at the homes and offices of chief officers, directors and contractors.
The officers say there has been misappropriation of funds meant for the county hence the searches. They have search warrants.
Ther Governor reshuffled the county executive committee to with the aim of fighting corruption.
The raid at Lenolkulal’s home comes just month’s after Migori Governor Okoth Obado’s homes both in Migori and Nairobi were raided over allegations that alongside a number of individuals that include his close friends and family, they defrauded Migori County of over 2 billion shillings.
It looks like the corruption menace in our Counties will not end anytime soon unless more strict measures are put up to deal with corrupt county chiefs and executives.
