Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru’s government was ordered by court to pay Judy Kinyua, a former county CEC, Sh3.3 million.

The order came after it was established that Kinyua was unlawfully dismissed from her work.

The Employment and Labour Relations court in Nyeri made the order after determining that the minister was not constitutionally dismissed in August 2018.

Dr Kinyua, who was the county’s CEC for Gender, together with her team, had filed the petition in September the same year demanding Ksh16 Million compensation.

Justice Nzioki wa Makau of the Labour court in Nyeri noted that in sacking a county minister, the County Assembly has to pass a resolution requiring the governor to dismiss the official from service.

“The motion in the county assembly seeking the dismissal must be supported by at least one-third of all the members of the county assembly,” he stated.

The governor is also facing another separate suit from a CEC of Transport, Roads and Public Works who was also dismissed from his position on similar grounds.

Peter Karugumi is demanding Ksh13 Million in damages.
