Double injury boost for Manchester United ahead of Liverpool showdown

Manchester United renew their top four bid when they return to Premier League action against Liverpool at the weekend.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side bounced back from last week’s Champions League defeat to PSG in fine fashion as they beat Chelsea to reach the FA Cup quarter-finals on Monday night.

Goals from Ander Herrera and Paul Pogba set up a last-eight showdown with Wolves but they will put their trophy bid on the backburner when they face Liverpool at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Mirror Sport revealed earlier this week that injuries to Anthony Martial and Jesse Lingard are not as bad as first feared and one or both of the forwards could be fit to face their rivals.

The pair suffered muscle injuries in the reverse to PSG – the first defeat since Solskjaer took charge in December.
Lingard gave the thumbs up to photographers as he arrived at Carrington for training, along with Martial and the rest of his team-mates.

The duo’s return to fitness would be a huge boost for United ahead of the crunch clash with Jurgen Klopp’s title-chasers.

Meanwhile, Pogba is driven by the feeling of defeat and the absence of domestic silverware last season.

The France World Cup-winning midfielder told MUTV: “Losing a game after 11 games without losing hurts and it’s a really bad feeling, so you don’t want this to happen again.

“All the competitions are important. We want to win something.

“Last year we didn’t win any trophies. I still remember that. This year we want to win something.”
